The Harrisburg Jewish Community Center is proud to announce that it will begin its new Cancer Wellness Exercise Program on October 16, 2006.
Our Cancer Wellness Team is a highly skilled certified and energetic group of professionals that will assist participants either in a group setting, or one on one with personal training. The team combined with our fitness center, aerobic studio, and swimming pool will help cancer patients and survivors defeat the every day symptoms of fatigue, anxiety and depression. Also, cancer patients will enjoy the benefits of exercise, meet other patients and survivors, and have an opportunity to better enjoy life to its fullest extent.
The Harrisburg JCC Cancer Wellness Program’s goal is to help cancer patients and survivors resume an active and healthy lifestyle through fitness, social activity, nutrition and much more. Fatigue is one of the major side effects of cancer, and through light exercise individuals can begin to increase their stamina, thus improving their life. Participants in the program will enjoy low-impact land and water workouts, as well as yoga, twice a week. The program is tailored to the individual needs of all participants, no matter where they physically are in the recovery process. The Cancer Wellness Program is about more than just exercise. The program cultivates a community environment that allows for patients to meet others going through cancer treatment and the healing process. Participants will be given the opportunity to meet with a nutritionist, have a massage, and work with a personal trainer. The entire program is based on wanting every cancer patient and survivor to get back to being more active and having the ability to enjoy all aspects of life.
