The Jewish men’s group from Dickinson college, Achim, will be holding a bone marrow swab drive in the JCC lobby for the organization Gift of Life.
There is a shortage of Ashkenazi donors for patients suffering from leukemia and other cancers as well as severe immunodeficiency syndromes, and they are asking for your help to aid these patients so greatly in need of transplants.
Gift of Life was founded by a Dickinson alumnus,Jay Feinberg '90, after a bone marrow drive that was organized in order to find a match for him. Since its creation in 2000 the organization has saved countless lives. It has especially been a boon for Eastern European Jews whom are disproportionally represented within the national databases and are hard pressed to find ideal matches outside of their immediate family.
It is also important to note that at the drive you simply swab your cheek to see if you are a match. There is no obligation to donate even if you are a match. We urge you to come and discover if you are a match, and potentially save a life!
