Temple Beth Shalom is the Reconstructionist Congregation located on the West Shore of the Greater Harrisburg Area. Rabbi Choper affiliates with TBS as our spiritual leader, serving as our community liaison, and a bridge to the Jewish Home. We are a warm, intimate congregation that strives to have an impact on the larger community around us. We come together from varied Jewish backgrounds, including Reform, Reconstructionist, Conservative and Orthodox. We welcome interfaith families, blended families, and individuals of all ages, races and sexual orientation. Temple Beth Shalom is more than a congregation – we are a community of friends that cares about each other.
Our size, around 35 families, allows us to have intimate and meaningful services. Our services are lively and engaging, melding tradition with contemporary ideas, and where music and warmth intertwine with prayer and study.
Shabbat Services:
Friday evening services at TBS are lay-led: 7:15 pm [check website for dates of services].
Saturday morning services are held at the Jewish Home led by Rabbi Choper.
Religious School:
Temple Beth Shalom has joined with 2 other Harrisburg area congregations in formation of the Greater Harrisburg Communal school, Gesher.
Gesher, meaning bridge is symbolic of the journey our students and their families take as they become learned about their Jewish heritage while they are engaged in Jewish life. This cutting-edge concept of a combined Jewish supplemental school is a bridge for our Greater Jewish community, as synagogue communities work together to combine resources and build a better school for all of our students and families.
Sisterhood:
TBS Sisterhood is committed to furthering the religious and cultural interests of its members. Our goal is to support the TBS community, both financially and with deeds of loving kindness. The Sisterhood also sponsors a book club which meets monthly.
